Abstract
254,201. Falkenberg, W. Nov. 11, 1925, [Convention date]. Sleepers, wood. - Sleepers are formed from rectangular core pieces b cut out of old sleepers, Fig. 2, placed side by side on edge, and united to form a sleeper of normal profile, Fig. 4. The edges of the sleeper may be bevelled at d, e, while the joint edges may be notched to receive a packing g which is forced into place and covered with pitch h. The joints are protected with packing f. Screws c are driven in alternately on opposite sides, and have square heads. The screws are dipped in oil and are screwed into the timber mechanically with increasing velocity.
