Abstract
259,126. Lorenz, H. April 1, 1926. Rods and bars.-Iron rods for use in reinforced concrete ceilings &c. are cranked and formed with hooks on the ends by an apparatus consisting of a shaped base plate co-operating at one end with a clamping plate, to which is pivoted a shaped T-bar for cranking the rods, the horizontal flange of the bar having an aperture through which the rod is passed prior to forming the hookends by moving the bar on its pivot. The work is clamped between a wrought-iron bar plate a and a plate f separated therefrom by interchangeable washers g. To the plate f is pivoted at h a shaped T-bar i provided with a handle k. The hooks on the ends of the rods are first formed by passing the rod through an aperture n in the flange m and then moving the bar on its pivot into the position shown in Fig. 5. The rod is removed laterally and the tool then swung round and the rod then cranked by bending it between the bar i and base plate. The rods are previously arranged in position in the ceiling, the hooks at one end of all the rods being formed first and the parts then cranked in turn. The tool may then operate similarly on the other end of the rods. The plate f and lever i may have blades o for shearing the rods. In a modification, Fig. 3<a>, a cast steel or malleable cast-iron base plate a with an integral plate f is used a slot being provided to receive the work. The apertured flange of the bar may be made continuous or in two parts.
