Abstract

258,952. McBain, W. J., McBain, A., and Howitt, H. T. Feb. 22, 1926. Regulating. - Relates to wind screws with automatically variable pitch blades wherein the blades move axially under centrifugal force and are provided with pins engaging cam grooves in the boss whereby they are rotated on their axes as they move axially. The blade A has a projection E on the root B which fits in a cam groove D in a socket C screwed into the boss and it is also provided with a central tube K with collars N, M which centralize it on a rod L. A spring T bears on the collar M and a spring G bears on a collar H for restraining the blades against centrifugal forces. A head P on the rod L is adapted to contact with a stop R when the full outward movement of the blade against the action of the spring G is reached, further movement at higher speeds resulting in the spring T coming into action.
