Abstract

258,857. Vervuert, G., (Assignee of Gelsenkirchen Bergwerks Akt.-Ges.). Sept. 24, 1925, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. Distilling zinc, lead, and other metals.-Volatile metals are obtained from ores, slags &c. by treating a briquetted charge of the ore &c. and fuel in a rotary tube furnace which may be heated directly or indirectly; or the charge may contain sufficient fuel to supply the whole of the necessary heat, heated air being in this case blown into the furnace. The furnace atmosphere may be neutral or reducing and the oxidation effected outside the furnace, or the atmosphere may be oxidizing; or the furnace may comprise separate reduction and oxidation zones. Additions required for the further treatment of the non-volatile residue may be added to the charge before briquetting. In some cases the briquettes may consist of ore only, or of ore with only a little fuel, the reduction being effected by gases. Lead and zinc may be obtained together and subsequently separated by known means. Heavy metals may be reduced and obtained from the residue.
