258,183. Harsh, G. M. April 12. 1926. Pyjamas. - Pyjama. trousers are constructed with an elastic waistband so arranged that, when contracted. the garment is slightly gathered without being pleated. In the form shown in Figs. 1, 3, and 4. the waist band 4 is of tubular form and consists of elastic mesh fabric which contains a strip of rubber 5 secured thereto by lines of stitching 13 of stout thread arranged as a series of Vs or Us, the limbs 41 and connecting members 42 being formed as single stitches. In applying the band, this is stretched to the same length as the top of the garment and the two sewn together, thus producing, in the contracted condition, the gathered effect shown in Fig. 1. The garment is provided with a fly 9 and the waist band is provided with meeting ends 10 fastened by a button. In a modification, Fig. 7, the strip of rubber is omitted and the elastic web fabric may contain threads of rubber, the ends of the bands being provided with reinforcing tubes which are sewn along the front edge 30 and the top and bottom edges 35 only. The button is sewn right through the band and reinforcement, and the buttonhole similarly formed.
