Tripping and throw - out arrangements. - In connection with the feeding of sheets to printing and like machines, a calipering-device of the kind which actuates a valve in connection with a suction automatic feeding-device to stop the feed if two sheets are fed at once is provided, and the calipering-device consists of an eccentric member 13 pivoted to a rod 15 secured to bifurcated ends 2, 3 of a valve body 1 connected to the suction feed. The body 1 is adjusted about the rod 15 and is secured in the required position by a set-screw. An arm 11 on a hub 12 integral with the eccentric 13 normally supports a valve 6 which keeps an aperture 7 closed. The eccentric 13 is normally maintained with its face 22 in contact with an adjustable rod 23 bv means of an adjustable weight 19, and the rod 23 is set so as to adjust the size of the opening 27 between the eccentric 13 and a resilient support 28 arranged on the feed table 29. This support 28 is of wire and is preferably formed with a bend 31 for clipping purposes, and a bend 30 adjacent to the eccentric 13. When a double sheet attempts to pass the opening 27 the eccentric 13 is moved clockwise, and the arm 11 releases the valve 6, and the vacuum in the automatic feeder is broken. When the sheets are cleared by hand, and the valve 6 raised, the eccentric returns to normal position under action of the weight 19.
