Description
DESCRIPTION
SINGLE GLAZED DOOR
This invention relates to single glazed and double glazed doors which has one or more pieces of glass placed within an external extruded aluminium frame or other extruded materials and such other materials as timber and steel or a combination of either materials to make the external frame.
Single glazed or double glazed doors that are fitted into an external/internal extruded aluminium frame or other extruded materials and such other materials as timber and steel or a combination of either materials to make the internal frame. The glass is normally held by elongated section which may be rubber, plastic or other materials which are fitted into a formation into either side of the external frame before fitting the glass. This is a difficult process to glaze as the elongated rubber, plastic or other materials inhibits the insertion of glass as it is designed to hold the glass in place.
Or the alternative is the elongated rubber, plastic or other materials which is fitted into the external extruded aluminium frame or other extruded materials and such other materials as timber and steel or a combination of either materials after the glass has been placed into the frame, these are called captive gaskets and are fixed in place once the glass is placed within the frame and then compressed between the external frame and the glass surface this makes it difficult to compress, as they require compression when fitting, and will only work when the first gasket is in place and the second gasket on the opposing side is pushed between the glass and the external frame thereby compressing both gaskets either side of the glass making a tightly fitted construction.
This invention uses a bubble gasket or similar on one side only that is fitted within the external frame inside an elongated formation, with the glass placed horizontally the external frame is then fitted around the glass. As the external frame of the single and double glazed doors has one side pre-fitted with bubble gasket or similar this then allows for a captive gasket to be inserted around the perimeter of the external frame on the opposing side of the glass.
The external frame has to be wide in its width, as this is due to the need to have push/pull or turn door handles to operate the door fixed to the external frame, if the external frame is narrow in width to allow more light through the door the push/pull or turn door handles to operate the door have to be fixed by drilling holes in the glass and the handles are fixed onto and through the glass the hole in the glass, this then has to be toughened glass to take the stress when the door is opened or closed.
By using a narrow external frame and having to use normal toughened monolithic glass, as this is less likely to fracture around the hole where the handle is fixed through, when stress is applied, these holes can only be cut when it is known what size holes and position are required to fit push/puII, lever type handles. The hole size and position are then given to a glass manufacturer who has to precisely mark and then drill the holes specific to each door.
Once this is done it has to go through a heating process to harden the glass this glass then becomes toughened glass and is sent back to the door manufacturer the more holes drilled in the glass creates even more weak points where the glass can fracture
Advantages
The narrow external frame allows for standard door hinges to be used instead of specialised hinges or being restricted to using top and bottom pivots the standard door hinges can be easily machined along the edge of the doors internal/external frame also top and bottom pivots can be used without the need for any holes to be created in the glass and with the inclusion of my ironmongery saddles made of one or more pieces Fig 3 (7,8) which can be machined so they sit flush into the sides and edge of the internal/external frame Fig 10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17 in any position to match the required points of the type of push/pull handles lever type handles Fig 18, also door closers and patch fittings Fig 18 as required
These ironmongery saddles Fig 3 are machined from extruded aluminium or various type of steel or other materials or cast aluminium or various types of steel or other materials or aluminium to allow fixing of the push/pull handles lever type handles, door closers and patch fittings that are required as there are no holes needed to be drilled through the glass and also through the internal/external frame to fix the ironmongery the doors can be manufactured in a much shorter time scale and with the ability to use standard laminated and acoustic glass giving greater acoustic properties and range of glass to meet specific requirements and eliminating the need to have the glass drilled and then toughened by a glass manufacturer, saving time and money.
The narrow internal/external frame Fig 1,2 allows for steel channel or channels and or steel angles to be inserted and fixed within the narrow external/internal frame Fig 8 (12)
Fig 9 (12) to achieve a fire rating construction with no steel channels or angles being fitted externally and to accept various thicknesses of fire rated glass.
The internal/external frame Fig 1,2 is designed to allow for fabrication to accept the ironmongery saddles and standard door hinges Fig 18 (29) along the lengths of its edges and sitting flush with the seen surface of the internal/external door frame, also having internal formations that have screw ports Fig 1,2 (15) to accept screws for fixing the internal/external frame also an internal bracket Fig 3 (10) for structural stability and to achieve a fire rating performance fitted into an internal formation Fig 1,2 (18), also corner cleats Fig3 (9) fitted into an internal formation Fig 1,2 (17) to keep the outer face of the internal/external frame flush without obstructing any ironmongery saddles standard hinges and latch fittings.
The internal/external frame is designed to allow for an elongated drop down sill Fig4 (30) and flush bolts Fig 5 (31) to be fitted into the internal/external extruded aluminium frame or other extruded materials without having to machine the centre web and without compromising the structural stability of the internal/external extruded aluminium frame or other extruded materials and still allowing the steel channel Fig 8,9 (12) to be inserted to encompass the fire rated glass to give additional structural stability to give a fire proof build.
The ironmongery saddles Fig (7,8) are designed to be individually fabricated to accept all types of push pull handles and lever type handles fixed in any position that is required along the length of the internal/external frame this is done without any fixings to the glass or holes being cut through the glass.
The ironmongery saddles Fig 3 (7,8) are designed to be individually fabricated with legs of equal length or legs of unequal length to accept most types of Patch fittings and Door Closers which can be fixed in any position that is required along the length of the internal/external frame this is done without any additional fixings to the internal/external frame or bonding of Door Closers to the glass.
The ironmongery saddles can be one or more pieces, various sizes in length, width and shape to accept and match all types of ironmongery that are required.
The ironmongery saddles have identical formations Fig 3,10,11,12,13 (16) as the external/internal door frames Fig 1,2 (16) to allow continual acoustic or smoke seal to be fitted down the full length of the external frame in one full length of the door with no gaps.
Using a one or more part external/part internal door frame allows for machining by CNC machines to sit flush into the external/part internal frame but allow the ironmongery saddles to stand proud oft the glass face of the single or double glazed door Fig 10,11,12,13,14,15.
As the ironmongery saddles are machined to fit flush and within the external/internal frame, this allows the doors to be fitted into all standard door frames, without additional machining of standard door frames or specialised door frames.
This invention uses a dual gasket fitting sequence which differs on either side, this allows for a quicker glazing time and allows for various thicknesses and types of glass to be used, one side uses a dual hardness bubble gasket Fig 3 (3,4,5,6) which is inserted into an elongated formation Fig 1 (22) and Fig 2 (23) and the other side users a solid or hollow gasket which is pushed into place between the glass and an elongated formation Fig 1 (21) and Fig 2 (24) this is done once the glass is inserted into the internal/external extruded aluminium frame or other extruded materials this allows for varying types and thicknesses of glass to be held in place using the captive gasket or gaskets.
This invention uses a dual gasket extruded profile which differs in size, this allows for a dual gasket extruded profile to be quickly inserted prior to glazing into the external/part internal frame and allows for various thicknesses and types of glass to be used, one side uses a bubble gasket Fig 3 (3,4) which is inserted into an elongated formation Fig 1 (22) allow3ing for various thickness of glass to be used and the other side users a solid or hollow gasket Fig 3 (6) which is pushed into place between the glass and an elongated formation Fig 1 (21) and Fig 2 (24) this is done once the glass is inserted into the internal/ external extruded aluminium frame or other extruded materials this allows for varying types and thicknesses of glass to be held in place using the captive gasket or gaskets.
This invention uses a dual bubble extrusion fitted at each end to a rigid or flexible extruded section Fig 3 (5) each bubble differs in size forms an extrusion which when flipped over allows various thickness of glass to be used Fig 6,7 (5) this allows for a dual bubble gasket extruded profile to be quickly slid along the length Fig 2 (23) of the external/ part internal aluminium frame or other extruded materials this allows for varying types and thicknesses of glass to be held in place using the captive gasket or gaskets Fig 3,4,5,6,7 (6).
