Abstract

Ball and like mills.- A liner for tube and like mills is formed of longitudinal bars of metal or other hard material spaced apart with a filling of relatively softer material such as cement grout between the bars. The bars a, preferably having a rounded working surface a' and a recessed rear surface, are united by casting in a block for convenience in handling and in application to the shell of the mill, so as to leave between successive bars longitudinal spaces b which penetrate the block from face to back. Bridges c unite the bars at intervals and preferably leave, in the rear portion of the block, channels which extend from end to end. When the blocks have been placed in the shell d of the mill, cement grout f is forced into the spaces b and recesses c<2>. Short grinding-bodies are preferably employed in the mill, and the bars have a width somewhat in excess of the greatest dimension of the bodies g while the spaces between the bars have a width somewhat less than the minimum dimensions of the bodies g so that the cement grout is worn away at about the same rate as the bars a.
