Abstract

256,626. Will, E. Aua. 8,1925, [Convention date]. Mould materials.-Metal moulds are given a protective coating by impregnating the surface layers of the mould cavity with metallic particles which have an affinity for the mould metal. In the case of iron moulds, zinc, bismuth or cadmium may be employed, and for copper moulds, tin. The coating metal is applied to the mould in the form of dust or vapour, and to secure sufficient penetration the coating is preferably effected in a bath at a temperature between the melting points of the coating and the mould metal. Instead of heating, high pressure may be employed. The heated mould may be further coated with a carbonaceous material. Specification 174,916 is referred to.
