Abstract

256,334. Appleyard of Leeds, Ltd., and Limb, F . May 9, 1925. Rest-bars and supports or props; axles, adjusting longitudinally.-Apparatus particularly intended for lifting and towing disabled vehicles, but applicable also for other lifting and towing purposes and as a garage crane, comprises a trailer 1 provided with means for tilting it about road wheels 5, a movable jib, a winch or other hoisting mechanism, a swivelling crutch for suporting an axle of the towed vehicle, and a coupling for attachment to a towing lorry. In one construction, Fig. 11, a U-shaped leg 91 pivoted to the frame 1 of the trailer is provided with a castor 95 and is secured in operative position by bolts 100 with the trailer tilted as shown. A screw and nut device may be provided for moving the pivoted leg. In another construction, Fig. 14, a forward wheel 113 is mounted as a swivelling castor. Each longitudinal 2 of the frame is provided with a wheel 155 on an axle 156 carried by an adjustable eccentric 157 so that the wheel can be raised to the inoperative position as shown. For use as a garage crane, the axle 6 carrying the road wheels may be disconnected and replaced near the front of the trailer and the wheels 155 brought into use.
