Abstract
256,101. Priebe, H. C. Nov. 19, 1925. Combined buffer and draw-gear of the type in which friction is produced by cam surfaces comprises a yoke 7, Fig. 1, connected to a coupler stem 6 by a key 2 sliding in slots 4 in the draught cills and provided with lost motion preferably in a slot 8 in the yoke. A front follower plate 12 is secured by a key 3, the ends of which are adapted to slide in slots 9, 5 in the yoke and draught cills respectively. A hollow rear follower plate 12 houses springs 19 and is provided at the outer end with sockets 15, 16 in which are fulcrumed inner rockers 17, 18 which coact with rockers 22, 23 respectively frictionally mounted in sockets 20, 21 in the front follower 12. Each rocker 22 is provided with friction surfaces 25, 27 engaging similar surfaces 24, 26 respectively on each rocker 17, so that in draught or buffing the friction surfaces slide over one another under the action of the springs 19. A plate or pawl 32 on each rocker 17, 18 engages with the coacting rocker 22, 23, when the draught or buffing stresses are removed, to restore the rockers to the normal position. A single pair of rockers may be employed.
