In radial-arm drilling-machines employing rollers for reducing friction between the arm-sleeve C and the pillar B, the rollers are comprised in chains A, Fig. 1, fitted where required in such a manner as to extend wholly or partly round the pillar. When the chains extend wholly round the pillar they may bear directly on the latter or on rings D fitting closely on the pillar, End means may be provided for taking up wear, such as a longitudinal slot in the sleeve and bolts. In a modified construction an endless chain A<1>, Fig. 2. extends round a bearing surface c concentric with the pillar, the surface a being integral with or attached to a cap c<1> adjustable on the arm-sleeve C. A lower bearing- surface is arranged at the front of the sleeve and an upper one at the back, and the rollers may bear on rings such as D, Fig. 1.
