Abstract

255,426. Soc. Anon. le Carbone. July 17, 1925, [Convention date]. Addition to 228,872. Electrodes; absorbents.-The battery described in the parent Specification in which the depolarizer is mixed with the colloidal substance used for gelatinizing the electrolyte, is modified by coating the particles of the depolarizer with a film impermeable to liquids before the depolarizer is mixed with the electrolyte. The latter can be fixed by means of starch, sawdust, agar, gum arabic, or other material which does not become pectized. The depolarizer may consist of powdered charcoal and may be coated by mixing it with a pectisable colloidal suspension as described in Specification 226,769 or with a solution of paraffin in spirit. In the latter case the mixture is heated to evaporate the solvent in order to obtain the coated charcoal powder.
