Abstract
255,166. Bolles, W. S. April 20, 1925. Emergency - exit fastenings; multiplebolt fastenings; sliding bolts. - A lockbolt releasing mechanism, particularly suitable for antipanic locks, has a buffering spring interposed between the bolt and its releasing mechanism to avoid damaging the lock by sudden metal-tometal impacts during operation. Figs. 2 and 4 show one form of the device wherein the crushbar 12 operates an arm 19 pivoted at 10 in a bracket 9 to release the bolts whichever way tl:e bar is moved. If moved upwards, the arm 19 depresses the arm 24 of a lever 21, rocking the lever 20 and lifting the member 22, compressing the buffering spring 28 carried therein so that it lifts the bolt-rod 6 by engaging the projection 26. If the bar is moved downwards, the arm 19 lifts the member 22 directly by engaging the projection 25. The bolts 33 are connected to the rod 26 by a pin-and-slot connection for allowing automatic securing of the door when slammed and a weak spring 8 keeps the rod 6 in its extended position. A projection 7 on the rod 6 may operate a rod 4 to release the latch bolt of the ordinary door-lock 3. A screw 36 may be provided to hold the bolt or bolts 33 out of action by engaging the top of the plate 37. Fig. 11 shows another form of the invention wherein upper and lower bolts 60, 61 are operated by pressing a bar or lever towards the door when an arm 72 on the lever lifts a slide 63 against a spring 75 and releases the bolts 60, 61 by the levers 66, 67, 68, compressing the spring 65. Fig. 12 shows a further form wherein both bolts 80, 81 are connected to the slide 82. When the actuating member 88 is moved upwards, it compresses the spring 85 and raises the slide 82 releasing both bolts, the upper bolt being formed as shown in Fig. 13 for this purpose.
