Abstract
254,726. Ring Ges. Chemischer Unternehmungen. July 1, 1925, [Convention date]. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Silica.-Highly absorptive silica suitable for purifying liquids and gases is made by first producing finely-divided silica by reacting upon silicon fluoride with steam or a small quantity of water and then removing adhering water by suction and moulding the silica under pressure into convenient shapes without removal of its "hygroscopic" water. The content of water must be that which the silica gel can absorb from saturated steam so that its pores are full. Even when high pressure is employed, the absorptive power of the material is not reduced. The first stage of the process may be effected by treating silicon fluoride with atomized water. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states that the first stage of the process may be effected by passing silicon fluoride into hydrofluosilicic acid. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
