Abstract

Combined moulding and re-pressing machines; moulding; stationary-mould machines; heating. -In twin machines for combined moulding and re-pressing bricks the four upper pistons of the two moulds and two re-pressing machines are carried by a common crosshead, while the two lower pistons of the moulds are carried by a lower crosshead or drop bar; the lower pistons of the re-pressing machines being arranged to move upwards with the drop bar during the pressing' operation, but not to move downwards therewith for more than a predetermined distance. Thus the four upper pistons a, a<1>, b, b<1>, Fig. 4, are connected to the common crosshead C, Fig. 1, operated by mechanism (not shown) from the cam shaft G. The two lower mould pistons registering with the pistons a, a<1> are connected to the drop bar D operated directly by the cam G. The two lower re-pressing pistons b<2>, b<3> are carried by a bar E hung by rods e<1> from the upper crosshead. In operation the sliding carriage F delivers a charge to the moulding-machine at each stroke, and also pushes two moulded bricks into register with the re-pressing-machines, and delivers two pressed bricks. During the return stroke and the initial portion of the succeeding forward stroke of the carriage all four bricks are pressed and ejected, while during the latter part of the forward stroke the lower mould pistons are lowered to receive the fresh charge. The mould pistons are steam-heated, the steam being delivered to the piston b and following through all the other upper pistons in series as shown in Fig. 4. In the case of the lower pistons, the pairs of mould pistons and re-pressing pistons each receive a separate supply of steam.
