[Class 87 (ii)] In a brick machine of the type having a stationary mould 18, a bottom ejecting plunger 22, a top pressing plunger 16 and a reciprocating feed box 28, the back wall of the feed box is movable inwards of the box when the box is over the mould cavity to disturb the moulding' material and discharge it from the box to the mould. The invention is shown applied to a moulding and repressing machine which may have a single pair of moulds (as shown) or two pairs side by side for producing two bricks at once. The ejecting plungers 22, 23 are secured to a " drop box " 24 moved up and down by a cam 26 on the main driving shaft 12. Driving wheels 13 on each end of the shaft 12 have cam tracks 35 which move the feed box 28, through cam followers 34 and links 30-32, between a hopper 27 and the first mould 18. The crosshead 15 carrying the pressing plungers 16, 17 is operated through connecting rods 14, Fig. 3, by cam grooves or cranks on the shaft 12. The rear wall 41 of the feed box is movable relative to the rest of the box and is normally kept in its rear position by springs 45 on two rods 42 projecting from the rear of the wall 41, passing through a guide 44 and a depending flange 48 and having abutment collars 43 for the springs 45. When the box is over the first mould cavity the rear wall 41 is projected inwardly by double arm levers 46, 47 pivoted on the box 28 and engaging the rods 42 at their inner ends and at their outer ends having adjustable rods 48 with rollers 49 which are engaged by the connecting rods 14 and straps 50 secured thereto as the connecting rods 14 are swung sideways by their actuating cam grooves or cranks. The rear wall 41 of the feed box is inclined downwardly and rearwardly to urge the material in the box downwards. If the bricks are made with their length direction in the direction of travel of the feed box the rear wall 41 carries a second face 141, Fig. 5, located about the middle of the box, on side arms 142. The front face 29 of the feed box acts to move a pressed brick to the repressing mould in the forward movement of the box and the former repressed brick onto the discharge table 21. The known expedients for facilitating the feeding of the material to the mould of shaking the box 28 when over the mould by means of the operating cam &c., causing the box to be stationary for a short period when over the mould, may be used in conjunction with the invention. The stroke of the rear ejector wall 41 is adjustable by means of the rods 48 and the ejector may operate at any desired time by appropriate setting of the cam 35 relative to the cranks or cams operating the connecting rods 14.
