Abstract

192,307. Whittaker, C. H. March 7, 1922. Stationary-mould machines.-In a brick-moulding machine of the type described in Specifications 3481/34 and 7456/93, in which the material is compressed in a stationary mould between upper and lower plungers, the lower plunger is positively reciprocated at least twice during the compressing operation in order to smooth the surface of the bricks. The upper plunger C is supported on a cross-head E reciprocated in vertical guides G by connecting rods E<1>, and is adapted to fall under its own weight and is also forced down positively by pins H<3> on the driving wheels H which engage projections E<5> on the connecting-rods E<1>. Cams H<2> mounted in the driving wheels H and working in slots E<3> in the rods E<1>, engage rollers E<4> thereon so as to lift the plunger C clear of the mould during charging. The lower plunger D is mounted in a. drop box C<1> .sliding in vertical guides F, and is reciprocated by a cam J wich engages a roller c<2> mounted on the box C<1>.
