Abstract
254,313. Rossman, A. R. Nov. 13, 1924, [Convention date]. Ladders.-In a railway sleeping-car, an upper berth 17, Fig. 2, has a bunk 19 for which a guardrail 47 is provided, the guard-rail having a gate 52, Fig. 4, for access to the berth. A folding ladder comprising side members 54, 55 to which the steps are hinged, is hooked on to the bunk 19 by members 59 and is opened out by a member 53 depending from the gate 52 when the latter is swung open. When the gate is closed, the steps and one side member turn about the otter side member and fold up flat against the side of the lower berth by means of springs 58 on the hinge joint of the steps. The ladder may be detached and stored on the bunk 19.
