Violins &c., mutes for.-A mute 5 carried by a stem 6 is held out of contact with the bridge 2 by a cam 9 controlled by a thumb-piece 10, and is automatically applied by a spring 11 attached to the stem 6 and the base 7. The base 7 which is slotted at 20 is adjustably mounted on the tail-piece 3 by a fitting 16, screwed hook 21, and nut 24.
