Abstract

Tubes, water.-The fire-box is fitted with water circulating tubes 1, the ends of which communicate with the water space between the fire-box wall or crown and the outer .shell 5 through hollow ported stays 2, into the inner ends of which the water tubes are secured. The outer end of the stays is threaded externally for attachment to the outer shell and internally to receive a removable plug 6. The inner end of the stays is expanded into the inner firebox wall 3 and the water tube ends are expanded into the stays by a tool inserted through their outer end. A projecting lip 7 may be provided at each end of the stays for rivetting over the fire-box plates, and the inner end may be treaded externally to engage a thread in the inner wall.
