Abstract

252,707. Rõth, C. May 28, 1925, [Convention date]. Iodo pyridine compounds are prepared by treating 3- or 5-amino-pyridine derivatives with acid and iodides, and then gradually adding alkali nitrite. A catalyst such as copper may be present during the reaction. An example is given according to which 2-oxy-5-iodopyridine is prepared by mixing a solution of potassium iodide with a solution of 2-oxy-5-aminopyridine hydrochloride in concentrated hydrochloric acid and gradually adding sodium nitrite. Specification 251,578 is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes the starting materials as amino derivatives of pyridine containing, if desired, electronegative substituents such as chlorine, and mentions the use of substances containing iodine instead of iodides. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
