Abstract

252,223. Tugwood, R. J., (Daimler- Motoren-Ges.). Jan. 23, 1925. Fluid-pressure.-Means for automatically regulating the pressure applied to the brakes of a vehicle by the relative movement of the frame or body of the vehicle with respect to the wheels or braked parts as described in Specification 189,746 is applied to fluid-pressure brakes. As shown in Fig. 1, the. brake system comprises a cylinder h the piston i of which is arranged to be actuated by a pedal m, lever l and link k to force liquid into a cylinder f containing a piston for applying brake shoes c by a wedge d. The one end of the link h has a pin-and-slot connection with the lever l and is engaged by a bell-crank n connected by a rod p with ,a piston s against which presses a spring u in a cylinder t connected to the chassis. The rod p is connected to parts associated with the axle. If therefore the retarding force acting on the chassis due to the application of the brakes exceeds the tension of the spring, relative forward movement of the chassis takes place whereby the point of connection of the link k with the lever l is adjusted to reduce the pressure transmitted by the pedal to the brakes. In another arrangement as applied to a pneumatic brake system in which air is admitted to the cylin. der f from a storage reservoir, the rod p actuates a relief valve.
