Abstract

251,837. Tresidder, T. J. Sept. 15, 1925. Linear-dimension gauges. - A micrometer screw-gauge comprises a beam 1 having a fixed stock 3 in which is clamped a micrometer head 7, and an adjustable sliding stock 4 fitted with an adjustable anvil 13. The beam has grooves or marks 2 corresponding approximately to the maximum travel of the micrometer spindle. In use, the stock 4 is set to a selected mark 2, positioned by a pin 17 engaging a hole 16a, and secured by a clamping screw 15. The fine adjustment is effected by placing a standard bar 25 between the micrometer spindle 27 and the anvil 13, and adjusting the anvil until the micrometer reads zero. The anvil is then locked by a nut 18. Loose sleeves 26 are provided to hold the standard and test pieces. The standard bars may be marked in both inch and millimetre sizes, the clamp 9 permitting the micrometer to be changed as desired. The beam 1 is secured adjustably by a clamp 21 in a pillar 20, and the pillar may be adjustably supported in a socket 23. The method of machining the parts is described. The micrometer 7 may be carried by the movable stock.
