Abstract
369,878. Surface and outline gauges. JUNKERS, H., 21, Kaiserplatz, Dessau, Anhalt, Germany. Oct. 28, 1931, No. 29891. Convention date, Nov. 7, 1930. [Class 106 (ii).] Rough blanks such as those intended for the propeller blades of aeroplanes are secured in a rigid frame by retaining devices, and callipers provided with gauge marks are then moved to contact with the blank, the position of the calliper gauge marks being then compared with fixed gauges mounted in the frame, in order to determine whether sufficient oversize obtains for satisfactory machining. The frame is composed of upper and lower plates 1, 2 and end members 3, 4. The blank 5 is held inside the frame by a clip 6 provided with laterally and vertically adjustable fixing screws 7, and also by four set-screws 10 .. 13. Of these the lower set-screw 10 has a flat head 14 for supporting the work which after adjustment on the part 14 is clamped by the other set-screws. Calliper rods 16 are then moved to contact with the blank, each rod having a mark 17 which should register with a previously adjusted countergauge 18 when the work has assumed its final shape. The gap between the mark 17 and gauge 18 represents surplus material to be removed by machining. The longitudinal dimensions are gauged by the rods 19 and the width by callipers 20 which are mounted in adjustable holders 21 turnable about pivots 22 to allow insertion of the work. Punches or drills 27 for making marks or depressions on the blank for use in setting up the latter on a machine may be introduced through holes in the frame or may have separate holders. These drills may be interchangeable with the rods 16.
