Abstract

A book cover 1 for a book W. Cover 1 has a cover member 10 having a pocket 11 to receive the front or rear cover of book (W, Fig.2), a tail member 20 extending from a side edge 12 of the cover member 10, and a sleeve member 30 adapted to embrace the tail member 20 and slide along the tail member 20. In use book (W, Fig.2) can have the front or rear cover (X or Z, Fig.2) placed in the cover member pocket 11 and the tail member 20 can wrap around the book spine (Y, Fig.2), and the sleeve member 30 accommodating the book rear or front cover (Z or X, Fig.2), the sliding movement of the sleeve member on the tail member accommodating books with different widths of spine. The tail member 20 may be made of flexible material and the free end of the tail mat be used as a book mark. The sleeve member 30 may have a stiffening sheet.

TITLE: Cover For Book The present invention relates to a cover for a book.

When reading a paperback book, the cover can become soiled e.g. when being transported in a bag. The invention seeks to provide a cover which can be used on a permanent or temporary basis to protect a book.

According to the present invention there is provided a cover for a book comprising: a) a cover member having a pocket to receive the front or rear cover of a book, b) a tail member extending from a side edge of the cover member, and c) a sleeve member adapted to embrace the tail member and slide along the tail member, in use a book can have the front or rear cover placed in the cover member pocket and the tail member can wrap around the book spine, and the sleeve member accommodating the book rear or front cover, the sliding movement of the sleeve member on the tail member accommodating books with different widths of spine.

Preferably the tail member is longer than the sleeve member and extends from the sleeve member away from the cover member, and the free end of the tail member may be used as a book mark. Preferably the tail member is of flexible material.

Preferably the sleeve member has a stiffening sheet.

Preferably the cover member, tail member and sleeve member are rectangular.

An embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows a perspective view of the book cover prior to use, and Figure 2 shows a perspective view of the book cover in use with a book.

Referring to Figure 1 there is shown a cover I for a book.

A substantially rigid rectangular cover member 10 is provided having a pocket 11 to receive the front (or rear) cover of a book (see Figure 2). Cover member 10 has a side edge 12.

An elongate rectangular tail member 20 of flexible material extends from side edge 12 of the cover member. Tail member has a free end 20A.

A rectangular sleeve member 30 with a stiffening sheet 31 is adapted to embrace the tail member 20 and slide in either direction along the tail member 20, as shown by the arrows.

Cover member 10, tail member 20, and sleeve member 30 may be formed from any suitable material such as paper/card or plastics.

As shown in Figure 2, in use a book W (such as a paperback book) can have the front (or rear) cover X placed in the cover member pocket 11, and the tail member 20 can wrap around the book spine Y, and the sleeve member 30 accommodates the book rear (or front) cover Z. The sliding movement of the sleeve member 30 on the tail member 20 accommodates books with different widths of spine. Preferably the sleeve stiffening sheet 31 is on the outside of the book rear cover Z. Preferably the tail member 20 is longer than the sleeve member 30, and extends beyond the sleeve member away from the cover member. The free end 20A of the tail member may be used as a book mark.

The invention may take a form different to that specifically described above. For example a tag could be provided on the sleeve member to allow a user to grip the tag in the fingers to help slide the sleeve member along the tail member.

Further modifications will be apparent to those skilled in the art without departing from the scope of the present invention.

Claims

CLAIMS1. A cover for a book comprising: a) a cover member having a pocket to receive the front or rear cover of a book, b) a tail member extending from a side edge of the cover member, and c) a sleeve member adapted to embrace the tail member and slide along the tail member, in use a book can have the front or rear cover placed in the cover member pocket and the tail member can wrap around the book spine, and the sleeve member accommodating the book rear or front cover, the sliding movement of the sleeve member on the tail member accommodating books with different widths of spine.
2. A cover according to claim 1, wherein the tail member is longer than the sleeve member and extends from the sleeve member away from the cover member, and the free end of the tail member may be used as a book mark.
3. A cover according to claim 1 or 2, wherein the tail member is of flexible material.
4. A cover according to claim 1, 2,or 3, wherein the sleeve member has a stiffening sheet.
5. A cover according to any preceding claim, wherein the cover member, tail member and sleeve member are rectangular.
6. A cover for a book substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to and as shown in the accompanying drawings.
