Abstract

250,629. Western Electric Co., Ltd., (Western Electric Co., Inc.). Dec. 2, 1925. Vacuum tubes.-In discharge devices having an external anode, a cathode, and a grid, a lead-in conductor is rigidly attached to the grid by manipulation from outside the device after the internal electrodes have been located in the device. The grid 21 and filament 22 are supported within the anode 10 from an insulating disc 19. The grid uprights 17 are secured to the disc 19 and to tabs 16 on a collar 15 by nuts 18, 20. The filament leads 23 are sealed in tubular extensions 24 of a stem 14 carrying the collar 15. After assembly of the grid and filament and the sealing of the stem 14 to the glass vessel 12, a short glass tube 25 is fused to the junction of the stem 14 and the vessel 12 in line with one upright 17 having a threaded extension 26. The grid lead, comprising successively a rigid metal rod 27 with an enlarged, internally screw-threaded head 28, a spiral spring 29. and a platinum wire 30, is then inserted in the tube 25, the head 28 being screwed to the extension 26 and the tube 25 fused to the wire 30.
