Esters of isoborneol and borneol are obtained by the action of a, fatty acid upon camphene, using as catalyst, in place of strong mineral acids, acids of less acidity, such as pyrophosphoric acid, boric acid, oxalic acid, toluenesulphonic acid, or when mineral acids are used a tempera- .ture substantially lower than 20‹ C., for example 0‹ C., is maintained. The fatty acid is added in excess of that theoretically necessary or highly concentrated.
