Aug. 18, 1925. faster control systems, electromagnetic.-An accelerating controller drum 2 turned by a pilot motor 85 and normally proceeding through successive steps automatically under the control of a current-limit relay 8, is provided with an additional master switch 111 and two' additional train wires 133, 138 leading to a non-'automatic relay 118 which renders the current limit relay ineffective. Successive single steps may thus be obtained, regardless of the relay 8, by the driver first setting the switch 111 in its left hand position, and afterwards moving the M<SP>g>uiar master switch 59 through its successive positions 1 - - 4 &c. After each master step the pilot motor makes one accelerating step and then stops, as it is short circuited through the group of drum contents 124 and one or the other of the train wires 133, 138 which are connected to respective rows of master contacts 145, 146 so as to come into action alternately.
