Abstract
The invention relates to a foot and leg exerciser which is small, light and portable, comprising two springs 1 and 2 with two plastic parts molded into the extended parts of the springs to form a foot rest A and a base support B which has an anti-slip part C fitted to ensure the exerciser remains in place when in use. Both the foot rest and the base support can be clipped together with a U shaped clip (E figure 4) to minimise the size. The exerciser should be used while seated with the spring side facing away from the user. The user can use the ball or heel of their feet for different exercises to improve muscle weakness, joint problems, foot swelling and poor blood circulation leading to complications such as Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT).
Description
Foot and leg exerciser
Description:
The invention relates to the problems caused by maintaining stationary positions for prolonged periods of time. Some examples of these sufferers are desk and office employees, drivers of automatic vehicles, travelers on airplanes, trains or coaches, the elderly and individuals with diabetes. This can lead to various health concerns including muscle weakness, joint problems, foot swelling and poor blood circulation leading to complications such as Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT).
An exerciser comprising of two springs connected together with two extended parts on the top and bottom. Thc two springs arc coilcd springs arrangcd coaxially, thcir common axis arc arrangcd to he horizontal in normal use whilst being axially spaced from each other.
On both of the extended parts of the springs, two plastic parts will be molded to foim the foot rest on the top and the base support on the bottom of the exerciser. Each of the plastic parts will have a circular shape or any other shape. The base support will be fitted with an and-slip material to the underside to ensure the foot exerciser remains in place when in use.
The inclination between the foot rest and the base support is fixed when the springs are in an unstressed condition and at an appropriate angle to allow for comfortable use.
To minimise the size of the exerciser for packing and storage purposes, the foot rest and the base support will be clipped together with a U shaped clip to be inserted into the holes indented into them. The clip being removable to free the foot rest from the base support to start exercising.
The exerciser is small, light and portable to use anywhere for a variety of foot and leg exercises for various muscles and joints. The users can use either the ball of their feet or the heel to achieve stimulation of different muscle groups that work on the ankle, knee and hip joints.
The exerciser is to be used with one leg at a time whilst the users are seated, with the anti-slip base support placed on the floor and the spring side facing away from them. The exercise comprises of the users keeping their foot elevated from the floor whilst applying pressure to the foot rest using either the heel or the ball of their foot to start the exercise. Additionally, another exercise requires the users to place their heel on the ground and apply pressure to the foot rest using the ball of their foot to start. For the last exercise, the angle between the floor and the elevated ball of the foot is in the range of 20 to 30 degrees for most users. The spring action will return the foot rest to its starting position. the user should repeat this exercises and change their feet when needed.
An example of the invention will now be described by referring to the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 -Shows the shape of the two springs (I) and (2) connected with the two extended parts.
Figure 2 -Shows the exerciser with the two springs (I) and (2) with the two plastic parts molded into the top and bottom extended parts to form the foot rest (A) and the base support (B).On the underside of the base support (B) is the anti-slip part (C).
Figure 3 -Shows the underside of the base support where the anti-slip part (C).
Figure 4 -Shows the exerciser with the foot rest and the base support clipped together with a U-shaped clip (E) fitted in the holes on both of them to minimise the size of the exerciser for packing and storage purposes.
