Abstract
The device 1 comprises a pair of frames 10, 20 of different sizes with a convex upper surface 11, 21. In use one or both of said frames may be used to manipulate parts of the body for therapeutic benefit. The frames may be formed individually or combined as a unitary moulding. The frames may be joined by a hinge or releasable connector. A cushioned or non-slip surface may be applied to the convex surfaces. The small frame may have a curved surface with a smaller radius of curvature at its apex and a larger radius of curvature either side of the apex.
Description
1
Title: Therapeutic Device The present invention relates to a therapeutic device.
According to the present invention there is provided a therapeutic device comprising a pair of frames of different sizes with a convex upper surface, in use one or both of said frames being used to manipulate parts of the body for therapeutic benefit.
Preferably the frames have a generally rectangular footprint with a part cylindrical upper face.
Preferably the frames are formed individually or combined as a unitary moulding.
Preferably the large frame has a curved surface which extends 110 to 150 mm high, e.g. 130mm high with a uniform radius of curvature of 250 to 290mm e.g. 270mm.
Preferably the small frame has a curved surface with a smaller radius at its apex and a larger radius of curvature either side of the apex. Preferably the small frame has a curved surface which extends 70 to 110 mm high, e.g. 90mm high with a radius of curvature of200 to 240mm e.g. 220mm either side of an apex with a smaller radius of curvature of between 40mm and 60mm, e.g. 50mm.
The two frames may be joined together by a hinge or releasable connector.
2
A cushioning and/or non-slip covering may be applied to the convex surfaces.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 shows a perspective view, and
Figure 2 shows a cross-section view along the line X-X in Figure 1.
Referring to the drawings there is shown a therapeutic device 1 comprising a pair of frames 10,20 of different sizes each with a convex upper surface formed by a part cy lindrical upper face 11,21. Frame 10 is larger than frame 20 and both have a generally rectangular footprint. In use one or both frames can be used to manipulate parts of the body for therapeutic benefit.
The frames 10,20 are formed individually or combined as a unitary moulding.
As shown in Figure 2, the large frame 10 has a curved surface 11 which extends 110 to 150 mm high, e.g. 130mm high with a uniform radius of curvature of 250 to 290mm e.g. 270mm.
3
The small frame 20 has a curved surface 21 with a smaller radius 21A at the its apex, and a larger radius of curvature 21 B,21C either side of the apex. The small frame has a curve surface 21 which extends 70 to 110 mm high, e.g. 90mm high with a radius of curvature 21B,21C of200 to 240mm e.g. 220mm either side of an apex with a smaller radius of curvature 21A of between 40mm and 60mm, e.g. 50mm.
The invention may take a form different to that specifically described above. For example, the two frames may be joined together by a hinge or releasable connector. A cushioning and/or non-slip covering may be applied to the convex surfaces 11,21.
The device of the invention has various therapeutic uses.
l.For Heel pain (Plantar Fasciitis)
• Step (Tread )with two feet on the frame 10 for about 5 minutes to start with.
• Then tread on the frame 20 for another 5 minutes .(You may need to hold on something to make you feel stable).
• Do this exercise three times a day until the heel pain is getting better. Even if you do not have heel pain, regular treading as a foot massage will give you a well-being feeling. This is part of the foot reflexology treatment
4
2. For Archilles tendon sprain.
• You kneel down on the floor (carpet) and sit on your calves.
• Turn over the device, and place the small frame 20 between your bottom and Archilles tendon (near the back of the heels),then slowly sit down on the frame 20 applying the pressure on the Archilles. Do it for one minute , then lift your bottom for a while and start again for next one minute. Do this as long as you want.
3. For Tired Leg syndrome
• People who stand the whole day suffer from Tired leg syndrome.
• Lie flat on your back on the floor.
• Put the large frame 10 underneath your calf muscles, nearer the back of the knees.
• Then roll your calf muscles gently side ways or backwards & forwards against the frame 10 for about 5-10 minutes.
4. For Prevention of deep vein thrombosis.
• Bed-ridden patients and people who sit too long at work or home are prone to get deep vein thrombosis.
• Lie flat on your back on the floor or in your bed .
• Place the large frame 10 underneath your leg muscles, and gently roll against the frame 10 sideways or backwards/forwards as long as you want.
5
5. For Toning the legs, thighs, and buttocks
• Place the device on the non-slip floor or carpet.
• You stand at the end of the large frame 10 (Toes towards the big hump). You may need to hold on something for stability.
• Then step onto the large frame 10 with one foot followed by another, then step down onto the floor.
• Do this exercise for 15- 30 minutes every day.
6. For Back Pain / Back Ache
• Place the device on the carpet or non-slip floor.
• You sit on the floor with two legs straight with your buttock nearly touching the large frame 10.
• Then slowly lie back ( with the support by your hands or elbows) onto the large frame 10, slowly stretching the back .You may move you buttock position to adjust the back area to lie on the large frame 10.
• Stay about one minute lying with your back on the large frame 10, to start with. Then you can increase the time when the back muscles become more supple.
• Do this exercise daily, But do not over do it. You need to know your limit.
6
7. For Neck Pain / Neck Stiffness / Occipital Headache
• Lie flat on your back.
• Place the small frame 20 underneath the back of your neck.
• Then roll your neck muscles sideways slowly about 2- 3 minutes.
• You can lift the buttocks from the floor with the help of your hands , putting more weight on the back of the neck.( Do not overdo it)
• You can move the neck position so that the whole neck muscles from the shoulder to the base of the skull are gently massaged.
8. To tone your abs ( abdominal muscles)
• Place the device on the carpet/floor.
• Position yourself so that your abdominal muscles (between the lower ribs and pelvic bones) are on top of the large frame 10. Your two palms are on the floor beside the large frame 10 in order to control your abdominal position and body weight.
• While breathing out you lower the abdomen onto the big hump . Stay like this for 3 seconds.
• Then breath in while your palms lift your body (tummy) from the large frame 10. Stay like this for 3 seconds.
• Repeat this exercise for about 5-10 minutes.
• Do not do this exercise with full stomach or within three hours after you have eaten.
• ( Note: pregnant ladies, people who have abdominal aortic aneurysm or abdominal cancers must not do this exercise )
7
9. For Indigestion,Constipation
• Repeat the same procedure as No.8
10. To Warm up for sports.
• Sports people who need to warm up to make the back muscles supple such as playing golf, tennis, squash , badminton etc can do the same procedure mentioned in No.6
Further modifications will be apparent to those skilled in the art without departing from the scope of the present invention.
