Bedsteads convertible into seats in which a hinged chair back folds down flat and the seat is hinged to the main frame to turn over to form a flat extension of the bed surface are provided with an independent woven wiresprung mattress for each section. A removable wire mattness 12 in the frame 10, 11 is provided in the chair frame 2, 3 and rests on strips 13 supported by corner pieces 14. An independent woven wire-sprung area 18 is mounted on the hinged seat frame 15, 17 which carries legs 21 with cross battens 22 adapted to fold flush within the frame and with the battens 20 to the seat cushion. On the hinged frame 24, 26 of the chair back is mounted a wire mattress 27. The lateral frame members 10, 15, 24 at their upper ends are level with the mattress components but are recessed at 31 or are attached in a lower position. A front flap 33 may be hinged on the member 15 of the hinged seat and conceals the framework of the closed seat.
