Abstract

249,087. Henrion, G. P. M. March 12, 1925, [Convention date]. Vehicle lamps, directing. - In a headlight adapted to be rotated about a vertical axis by means operated by the driver, the elements 2, 3, of a conical coupling, secured respectively to the lamp-spindle 1 and its socket 1<a>, are retained normally by a spring in engagement so as to hold the lamp steady and are disconnected by the initial movement of the operating means before the lamp is rotated. In one form, a pulley 5 is formed in two parts, hinged together at 8, and with a recess 7 engaging a spherical projection 4 on the element 3. On rotation .of the pulley by means of a cable 6, connected to an operating lever, the two parts of the pulley are brought into contact and raised on the spindle 1 so that one or more studs 10 engage a corresponding recess 11 in the element 2, which is disconnected from the element 3 and rotated with the pulley. On releasing the cable 6, the element 2 is returned by a spring 12 into engagement with the element 3 to hold the lamp in the adjusted position. In a second form, a pulley is provided on its upper face with an inclined circular groove, which engages studs carried by the element 2 to disconnect the coupling against the action of a spiral spring, arranged between the lower end of the socket 1<a> and a collar on the spindle 1.
