Abstract
232,374. Bragg, T. M. Feb. 25, 1924. Vehicle Lamps, directing.-A spotlight mounting for motor vehicles which is adapted to be connected to the steering-gear at willwhilst enabling the lamps to be, manually directed in a vertical plane at all times comprises a bracket 10 secured to the windscreen and carrying a sleeve 11 within which is rotatably mounted a socket 13 which carries at its upper end a horizontally-disposed rotatable stem 14 carrying the lamp 15. Secured to the socket 13 by means of a ring or packing 16<x> is a collar 16 adapted to serve as one member of a dog-clutch, the other member of which consists of a sleeve 17 keyed at 24 to a vertical rotatable stem 19 and normally forced into engagement with the collar 16 by a spring 22. The lower end of the stem 19, which is journaled in a bearing 20 secured to a part of the car, is provided with a slotted crank-arm 25, in the slot of which is adjustably secured a ball-stud 27 adapted to be connected by a link 30, Fig. 3, to the throw-arm 31 of the steering- gear so that the stem 19 is given a rotary movement corresponding to the movement of the steering-gear, thereby normally causing the lamp to swing in a horizontal plane about the sleeve 11 in unison with the movement of the front wheels of the vehicle. The lamp may be disconnected from the steering-gear by forcing the sleeve 17 downwardly to disengage the clutch and the clutch may be retained in the disengaged condition by turning the sleeve 17 sufficiently to move the key 24 out of alignment with the slots in the sleeve which it normally engages.
