Abstract
A telescopic levelling device 1 is provided for aligning and marking hanging points of objects on a wall. The telescopic levelling device 1 comprises a solid arm, and an adjustable arm 2. A spirit level 3 incorporating both horizontal and vertical bubble vials is attached underneath the solid arm. The adjustable arm 2 includes a drop down ruler 4. Both the solid arm and the adjustable arm 2 further include brackets 5 for aiding with marking hanging points on a wall. The device may further comprise a pair of suction pads (6,fig.2) for offering better stability whilst hanging items on a wall. The device may further comprise a pen or pencil holder 7. The device is particularly suited for installing and levelling picture frames, mirrors, shelving, towel rails and television brackets.
Description
UNiVERSAL PRECISION GUIDE TELESCOPIC LEVEL This is an invention which helps to align products such as pictures vertically and horizontally on walls.
For example, pictures which have one or more holes, the telescopic level gives you a quick and easy way of hanging them correctly.
However, using conventional methods such as an individual spirit level and measuring tape, you are likely to mark more lines or dots on a wall before you get it exact, vertically or horizontally.Hanging pictures and other items on a wall can be simple or complicated. When one hook is used it is a relatively simple matter to position it accurately so the picture will hang properly. On the other hand, where two or more hooks are used, there can be difficulty setting the hooks without one being higher than the other.lt is then apparent that the picture will hang at an angle and numerous attempts will be made to set height and distance correctly. The purpose of this invention is to provide a simple device to mark hanging points on a wall evenly and level.
The use of the telescopic level which has it1s own built in features and moveable parts such as the extendable arm will give extra length. The bracket on the solid arm fix and the bracket on the extendable arm fix can guide you to the centre of holes on a picture frame and with the moveable spirit level it will allow you to align it correctly on the wall. a
This invention will now be described by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawing within.
Fixture 1 shows the front elevation of item 1 the solid arm with fix bracket, item 2 adjustable arm with fix bracket, item 3 spirit level, item 4 drop down ruler, item 5 two moveable brackets, item 7 pen or pencil holder.
Figure 2 shows the back elevation of item 4 a rebated drop down ruler, item 6 two fastened suction pads.
Figure 1 shows item 1 a solid arm with fix bracket and item 2 the adjustable arm with a fix bracket attached to item 2 which gives extra length.ltem 3 is a spirit level which has two air bubbles built into one unit which has two vertical lines and two horizontal lines that is attached underneath item 1.ltem 4 is a drop down ruler and is attached to item 2This allows you to measure above windowheads for height guidance.ltem 5 is two slideable brackets which are attached on top of the adjustable arm item 2.ltem 7 is a pen or pencil holder which is fixed on front of item 1.
Figure 2 shows the back elevation of the telescopic level in which item 4 a drop down ruler is rebated into item 2.ltem 6 is two suction pads, one is fastened at the end of item 1 the solid arm.The other suction pad is fastened at the end of item 2 the adjustable arm for greater stability on tile or metal surfaces not limited.
When using the telescopic level for example on a firebreast walI,first place the solid arm item 1 to the wall with the static bracket centre hole to the edge of the wall. Then with the adjustable arm item 2 moving to the far end of the walIwith the static bracket centre hole to the edge you will get the full width of the wall.To get the centre of the wall with the telescopic level still in place using a pen or pencil.Mark one line or dot on the upperside of the measuring tape on the telescopic level.By halving the width you will get the centre. So if the width is forty eight the centre will be twenty four. Then placing the picture frame face down with two holes or hooks usually one hundred millimetres from each side of the picture frame.Using the telescopic level place the static bracket on the solid arm item 1 to the centre of the first hook or hole on the back of the picture frame. Then by moving the adjustable arm item 2 to second hook or hole on picture frame placing the static bracket to the centre with that done. Then removing from picture frame, with the measurements located on picture frame correct half the width on the telescopic level tape.So if width is twenty six then the centre will be thirteen.Replace the telescopic level on the wall and position to the centre mark on wall. With the spirit level item 3 lineing it correctly.Using a pencil or pen mark each hole on the static brackets on both arms item 1 and item 2 with a dot.You are now ready to place nails or screws at each dot.You are now ready to hang your picture to the wall.By placing the two hooks on picture frame to the two nails or screws on the wall the distance should be the same from end of wall to end of picture frame on both sides correctly and lined correctly.
When hanging three picture frames with one hook or hole in them.First face down the picture frames. Then with the telescopic level.Getting each centre of picture frames at the top using the measuring tape.Once marked,to get the distance or space between each picture frame place the static bracket on the solid arm item 1 to first frame that is marked on top centre. Then by moving the first slideable bracket item 5 on adjustable arm item 2 to second frame top centre mark leaving the required distance or space by using the measuring tape on telescopic level.Once done move the second slideable bracket item 5 on adjustable arm item 2 to frame three to top centre mark.Allowing the same distance between using the measuring tape. When completed place the telescopic level to the required location on wall where pictures are to be hung.Wfth all measurements correct on ievel, with a pencil mark each required bracket point on the telescopic level.Using the moveable spirit level item 3 once lined remove level from wall, then you are ready to place nails or screws to each dot on wall. When completed you are ready to hang each picture frame to wall vertically or horizontally correct. With all pictures in line and distance between them exact.
The same method can be used when picture frames have two holes or hooks.By placing the static bracket on solid arm item 1 and first slideable bracket item 5 on adjustable arm to frame 1.Then using the second slideable bracket and static bracket on adjustable arm item 2 placing on frame two leaving the required distance. Then place the telescopic level to the wall and mark the four bracket points. Then by placing the telescopic level first two brackets onto points number three and four. This
S
will allow you to mark the fifth and sixth points by using the second slideable bracket item 5 and static bracket on the adjustable arm item 2 that will give you the third picture frame to be hung.Having done that all pictures will be aligned correctly with height evenly level and same distance apart.
The telescopic level measuring tape and spirit level item 3 can be used individually for all other purposes without the aid of the static and slideable brackets.
As noted the present hanging aid can give precise locations for nails or screws whatever item is used to hang an item on a wall. The aid simply adjusts to line up with hanging points on the rear of items to be hanged and then taken to the wall to the wall and placed against the wall.Once the aid is levelled this results in two to four dots being marked caused by the bracket points.
Other benefits include precise measurements and levelling for installing everyday products such as mirrors, shelving, towel rails,tv brackets.
The present invention relates to an adjustable and wall hanging device to mark hanging points on a wall level. This device can be made of any material, not limited to but including metal and plastic and length is not limited.
