Abstract
247,946. Hilbert. H. Feb. 19, 1925, [Convention date]. Purifying and refining.-In the process for increasing the phosphoric content of Thomas slag, calcium phosphate is introduced along with the usual addition of chalk or dolomite into the converter containing the pig iron, and the charge is then subjected to the blast to convert the pig iron into steel. The phosphates used may be natural calcium phosphates or artificial phosphates or slags containing such phosphates. In an example, when cold phosphate is introduced into the converter, 80 kg. of phosphate and 8-10 kg. of lime are used for every ton of crude iron.
