Abstract
Electronic point of sale (EPOS) electronic receipt production includes sending an electronic receipt to an electronic device of the user. The transmission may be direct using a transmitter within an EPOS terminal and a short-range wireless communication protocol such as Bluetooth (RTM) or near-field communications. Otherwise the electronic receipt can be delivered to a mobile telephone of the user using SMS messaging or can be delivered to an email account of the user. The EPOS terminal may have touch screen 7 and voice command 8 inputs and have coin 11 and bank note 12 inputs as well as a card reader 14. The EPOS terminal preferably has a network connection. A biometric scanner 9 can be provided in the EPOS terminal so that the identity of a user can be confirmed. The EPOS terminal is preferably a self-service checkout unit. Software may also be provided on the mobile telephone of the user to store the electronic receipts received from the EPOS terminal.
