Abstract
247,467. Eckardt, E. E. July 28, 1925. Retouching; negatives, producing by means other than photography.-Relates to the process of producing from a photographic negative either line drawings or prints with certain features emphasized in which the negative is rendered more or less impervious to actinic light, as by photographic treatment, painting, or dyeing, and the features which are to constitute the print or which are to be emphasized are scratched into the film in the form of continuous lines, stippling or hatching, or bare patches. According to the invention, the film, before scratching, is hardened in a bath containing stale hydrofluoric acid, and the negative, or the plate or film from which it is produced, may be coated with impervious material, such as glass dust mixed with sulphuric ether, which yields on drying a surface upon which the outlines of the features to be scratched in may be pencilled.
