Controllers; handles; brake devices. - The crank 8 of a controller is pivoted at 13 to a member rotatable inside a casing 11 secured to the controller casing 16, and when pressed down against the action of a spring 12, maintains jaws 'i on a collar 3 secured to the shaft 5 in engagement with jaws 6 on a casing 2 secured to the - controller shaft 4. Thus the shaft can be rotated in the ordinary way. When the crank 8 is released, the collar 3 moves so as to disengage the jaws 6, '7 and to engage jaws 9 thereon with jaws 10 on the casing 11. The collar 3 is thus - locked against rotation, but a coiled spring 1 located between the collar 3 and the casing 2, unwinds and turns the controller into the braking position, The operation can also be effected by the passenger pulling a cord attached to a release pawl.
