Abstract

Heat-retainers for use in ordinary internally bottom-heated gas ovens comprise a slab 1 of refractory material backed or reinforced by a metal plate, frame, or the like 12, which, after being heated over the burners or an external source of heat, is supported shelfwise in the oven in proximity to the food. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 2, refractory slabs 2, 3 are supported in a more or less vertical position by the aid of ledges 8 on a shelf 9. Fig. 3 shows slabs 1,2. 3 hinged together so that they may be folded flat whilst being heated and opened out during use.
