Abstract

246,845. Giguet, J. Jan. 31, 1925, [Convention date]. Kinematograph apparatus is provided with a claw feed mechanism, a gate, and a shutter, all of which are adjustable to render the apparatus suitable for use as a camera or as a projector; the claw feed mechanism may be adjustable for film-centring, and an additional gate may be provided to enable the apparatus to be used for printing. Fig. 2 shows the apparatus arranged for projection. The feed mechanism comprises a spring-pressed claw 8 carried by a fork 10 having prongs 9, 11, and rocking about an axis 12. A spring 14, extending between the prong 9 and a hand lever 15 pivoted at 16, keeps the prong 11 in engagement with a rotating cam 17. The cam 17 has profiles 19, 20 such that the claw is caused to descend rapidly to feed the film and to rise more slowly. When the apparatus is to be used as a camera, the lever 15 is turned upwards so as to render the spring 14 inoperative, and the profile 19 then acts alternately on the prongs 9, 11 to cause a slow descent and ascent of the claw 8. The axis 12 is movable in a slot 13 so as to adjust the position of the claw and effect film-centring. The gate comprises members 5, 23, Fig. 9, shaped to provide a centrally recessed passage 21 and edge guides 22. The members 5, 23 have apertures 24, 25 somewhat larger than the image area, and a plate 28 pivoted at 29 has an aperture equal to the image area and is provided with marginal bars 30. The plate 28 is pressed by a spring 31 and is held in the position shown, during projection, by a lever 32 engaging a nose 33 on the plate. When the apparatus is used as a camera, a plate is held in the aperture 25 by a spring, and the lever is turned to allow the spring 31 to press the bars 30 against the film. The film is fed to and from the gate by a sprocket 1, and a second' gate 40 having an aperture 42 is provided for use in printing, the films being then fed directly and continuously to and from the gate 40 by the sprocket 1, and a lamp house being provided above the gate 40. The shutter comprises a blade 34 keyed on a collar 35, and a number of blades 37 rotatable on the collar and capable of being held by a helical spring so as to serve with the blade 34 as a single blade for use in photographing, or to form one or two flicker blades for use in projecting.
