Abstract
246,345. Benda, J. Oct. 16, 1924. Threads, treating with liquids, gases, and vapours.-Sewing-thread for use in boot-making machine.s is impregnated with a known composition comprising a solution of celluloid or other cellulose derivative in acetone or the like, together with resinous substances such as colophony, pitch, paraffin wax or the like, stearine, gutta-percha, tallow and oils such as castor and linseed oils, and is passed, as it enters the machine, through a solvent, such as acetone, to soften it for use. The impregnated thread is preferably stored before and during use in airtight chambers, and exposed to the vapours of the solvent. For this purpose the thread may be wound on perforated reels. Methyl formate or acetate or amyl acetate may be used as solvent instead of acetone. Other specified substances which may be included in the impregnating composition comprise turpentine, cerosine and dyes. When white' thread is required, a solution of celluloid and collodion is used for impregnating.
