Apparatus for making filaments.-To enable an apparatus for the stretch-spinning of artificial silk to be used for the spinning of a number of threads, each spinning apparatus is provided at the upper part with a spinning head a having a plurality of sets of spinning-nozzles and means such as cones e, f, Fig. 7, or partitions h, Figs. 4 and 5, are provided for keeping separate the thread-bundles b, c, which leave the apparatus as threads through separate orifices in the lower part of the apparatus. Coagulating liquid may be supplied to the upper part of the vessel, the current dividing into streams corresponding in number with the cones or sections in the spinning apparatus; alternatively, coagulating liquid may be supplied at the lower part of each section, and in part escaping through outlets at the upper part of the apparatus, as shown in Fig. 5; or it may be supplied to the lower part of one section only, a part of the liquid rising in this section and overflowing into the adjacent section, from the lower part of which it escapes, as shown in Fig. 4. More perfectly to separate the several bundles of filaments, a partition m, Fig. 7. extending to the spinning nozzles, may be provided. The spinning head may be provided with separate branch passages to the several sets of spinning nozzles, for which separate sockets are provided, or it may be recessed to provide a seating for an adapter t, Fig. 13, having two or more branch passages s.
