Armature and field magnets, cooling.-The magnet ring or equivalent flux-carrying member a is formed with ducts b, b<1>, b<2> adapted to convey the cooling- fluid circumferentially around and transversely across it. The ducts may be cast in an annular enlargement a<1> of the machine casing, the ends of the transverse ducts being closed by removable rings c. Webs or fins e, g, g<1> are cast inside the magnet ring and the end covers to take up heat from the circulating enclosed air and conduct it to the cooling-fluid, and linings may be fixed over these ribs to transform them into tubular ducts.
