Abstract

245,841. Freeman, S. B. Oct. 14, 1924. Pipes; strainers. - Apparatus for pumping ship's bilges &c. comprises a pump suction pipe c provided with a strainer b, the interior of which is connected to an emergency pipe a having branches e at various levels, so that, if the outer surface of the strainer is blocked, the rising liquid can pass to the pipe c through the pipe a. Strainers may be arranged on the branches of the pipe a, or strainer boxes in the pipe a itself. A second strainer may be arranged in the pipe c to catch solids which pass through the pipe a. The pipe a may be used for sounding.
