Skips; vehicde fittings: lifting-cradles.-A skip for use with cranes and transporters comprises bucket members a hinged together at c by pins extending into guides in the vertical arms d of a hoisting bale e, the bucket members a being held closed by links f pivoted to the bale arms d. The skip is opened by transferring its weight to an auxiliary bale i connected with the outer corners of the bucket members by links k and operated from a second winding drum on the crane &c. As shown in Fig. 6, the main and auxiliary bales e, j form part of a separate bale unit which is lowered over the skip when resting on a cradle l on a bogie or on the ground. The cradle l is provided with transverse members m which receive the bars n of the bale unit and guide them into engagement with bearing brackets q on the skip when the bale unit is raised to lift the skip.
