L a t h e s ; machine framings. - A bed or slide for a lathe or other machine consists of a front bar a of solid or hollow circular section and a rear bar b of rectangular section. The bars are spaced apart so as to accommodate large diameter work without a gap bed. The tailstock is in two parts j. k, the latter being laterally adjustable for setting over, and the height of the centre is adjustable by means of the screws l, m, the latter serving also for clamping. The lead-screw nut may be split or solid and may be attached to the saddle or to a separate collar guided on the bar a by a key and groove. Copying-mechanism. - The saddle may be oscillated about the bar a by providing a templet on the bar b, either attached thereto or formed integral therewith, and the height of the saddle relatively to the centres may also be adjusted by a similar oscillation.
