Abstract

A door seal formed from a pneumatic tube which is placed between the door frame and door wing and inflated created a seal preventing the ingress of flood water. The tube may have an integrally formed rubber flap which can be fed into the gap between the door frame and door before closing the door, the flap can be cut to accommodate for the door hinges. The tubing has a valve which can be used to inflate and deflate the tube. Double sided tape may be used to hold the tube in position on the door frame. This allows for the seal to be removed and reused at a later time. The tube may be a single length forming a U shape around the bottom of the door frame.

DOOR SEAL AGAINST THE INGRESS OF WATER DURING
FLOODING
The invention relates to the sealing of doors and ingress of water in households where there has been a flood.
At present this problem is addressed by the use of sandbags, which have obvious drawbacks such as weight, distribution, effectiveness and storage.
This invention consists of a rubber tubing, similar to a bicycle tube, and includes a valve by which air can be pumped into the tube when placed (j) into position in a door frame.
The tubing has two sealed ends, i.e. it is not a continuous circle.(diagram).
The tubing is placed in the door frame in a U shape (diagram) and is temporarily held in place by the use of double sided adhesive tape.
The door to be sealed is then almost completely closed by the user and air is pumped into the tubing with a hand pump and inflated to an optimum size of expansion. The door is then completely closed on the inflated tubing giving a watertight seal.
The valve is located near one end of the tubingand hangs on the inside of the room for ease of inflation (diagram).
The tubing also has a continuous flap attached, running along its entire length. This flap is fed into the space between the door and the frame at the initial placing of.the tubing into position. The flap is capable of having a section cut out of it to allow the tubing to encompass and seal the door hinge. The flap can also be cut off if it is not required in areas of the door meeting frame where it would be counter productive. 2.

Claims (8)

1. CLAIMS.
2. A door sealing pneumatic tube which will stop the ingress of water through a door during a flood.
3. A watertight seal is formed by closing the door on the lightly inflated tubing.
4. A tubing with an integral rubber flap which can be fed into the door/frame gaps before closing the door.
5. A tubing with an integral rubber flap, the flap can if required be cut out to accomodate door hinges if necessary.
6. A tubing with an air valve through which the tube can be inflated just prior to completely closing the door to be sealed
7. A tubing which lies flat (excluding valve) when all air is expelled.
8. A tubing which when initially being set in place is held there by double sided tape to the door frame and ground base prior to inflation.
