Abstract

A flood prevention device for a door comprises a sub-frame fixed permanently to the frame of the door and a plastic panel which is received in the frame. The sub-frame may be screwed to the door frame and sealed with a silicon sealant. The plastic panel may be hung in the sub-frame using hinges, and may comprise two rubber gaskets which form a seal between the panel in the sub-frame. The seal between the panel and the sub-frame may be maintained by a rotatable handle and receiver assembly. A locking button may be provided on the handle to prevent release of the handle from the receiver. The flood prevention device may be adapted so as to fit over windows, air bricks, patio doors and garage doors. The device may be fitted on the outside or inside of a door.

Description

Description Construction of Door The construction of the door will be a basic plastic panel groved out to take two rubber gaskets which will form the seal when fitted to the sub frame. The Sub Frame The sub frame will be fixed permanently to the door frame and sealed with a silicone sealant. The subframe will have the receiver already fixed and the hinge pins also fixed ready to take the door. Fixing the Sub Frame and Door To fix a standard subframe first decide which side the door will be hung. Then fix the hinges and the receiver into the pre-marked holes.
Now make sure the door frame is clean and a using a mastic gun form two mastic seals to the back of the subframe. Now position the subframe to the door frame and screw to the frame through the pre-drilled holes. The sub-frame is now secure and a water tight seal is formed between the sub-frame and the door frame.
This is the first and last time the sub-frame needs fixing as it can stay on the door frame permanatly Fixing the Flood Door to the Subframe To fix the flood door to the subframe locate the opposite halfs of the hinges and fix them into the side of the door having already decided which way the door is hanging when you fitted the subframe.
Now fit the handle in the predrilled holes to the door.
Once you have fixed the hinges and the handle check the gaskets are clean and secure then lift the door into position locating the top hinge first as the pin is longer to make fitting easyer then ensure the bottom hinge has also been located correctly.
Your door is now hanging and if you push it closed and turn the handle into the receiver you will have a perfect seal between the sub frame and door.
The last thing remaing is to press in the locking button on the handle this will stop the handle from working loose.
And will ensure the pressure remains on the gaskets.
Depending on the type of door and frame the flood door is to be fitted too the flood door can be fitted inside or outside.
A smaller version of the flood door may be requiered over air bricks depending on the situation of the air bricks.
