Counting -apparatus. - An intermittently rotated ratchet wheel 10, which may form part of a taximeter or other counting or like apparatus, is positively locked when not being driven, by a detent 12 adapted to be raised during the operative stroke, by the lever carrying the driving pawl 7. The pawl 7 is shown pivoted to the end of a lever 3 controlled by a spring 6 and a continuously rotating cam 2. The locking detent 12 pivoted at 13 and normally drawn into action by a spring 14, carries a pivoted plate or arm 15 drawn by a spring 19 against an adjustable screw stop 18. During the operative stroke, as the pawl 7 comes into action, the end of the lever 3 engages the plate 15 and lifts the detent 12, allowing it however to drop as the lever passes the plate. During the return movement, the spring 19 yields, allowing the plate 15 to rock without disengaging the detent 12. The lift of the detent is regulated by the screw 18.
